PBIS/Bullying Prevention

POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTIONS AND SUPPORTS

As we seek to fulfill our district vision to be "a community of excellence," our work to provide all students a positive environment for learning is ongoing. Our Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) program at Oakland uses the acronym of O.A.K.S to promote positive behavior throughout our building. Our O.A.K.S. program serves as a reminder to our students that they are to be:

  • Outstanding Learners
  • Always Respectful
  • Kindness Counts
  • Safety First

On a regular basis, our staff members teach students specific applications for these behaviors in different areas of our school. Click here to see a matrix that provides applications of these behaviors across our building. Our building PBIS Committee meets monthly to monitor and support the implementation of PBIS at Oakland.

BULLYING PREVENTION

Preventing bullying is integrated in our PBIS program. Along with our O.A.K.S. lessons, we work with students at Oakland both on how bullying behaviors can impact others and are thusly unacceptable, along with strategies for students who might find themselves on the receiving end of such behaviors.

Our District Policy on Bullying is Policy 5517.01; it may be reviewed by following the link to our district policies available on our website . District level support for our building PBIS and bullying prevention programs includes special services staff that are available to support program development and to assist us in specific situations.
